Forget the Orthodontics: Veneers Can Fix Many Misalignment Issues

Forget the Orthodontics: Veneers Can Fix Many Misalignment Issues

Many children and adults of all ages will need orthodontic treatment. While braces are a common treatment option for misalignment issues like an overbite or spacing issues, you might be surprised to know that veneers can be an alternative to orthodontics in some cases.

At 2K Dental, our team of dentists offers a range of dentistry services across five locations in Parma, Akron, Cuyahoga Falls, and Cleveland, Ohio.

How veneers work

Veneers are custom-made from porcelain and bonded onto the surface of the teeth. In some cases, a thin layer of enamel may need to be shaved down to fit the veneer.

Veneers are molded to create each tooth's ideal shape and size for a natural-looking fit, making them suitable for minor to moderate cosmetic imperfections.

With adequate care, many veneers last an average of 5-10 years or longer.

Can veneers replace braces and orthodontic treatments?

Veneers are typically used to fix minor to moderate cosmetic imperfections like chips, cracks, fractures, and small spaces or gaps. They’re non-invasive and change the size, shape, and color of your teeth, making them the perfect option for a smile makeover.

Veneers may be a good option if you have minor misalignment issues, such as small gaps and spaces between your teeth or uneven teeth.

If you have more extensive bite and misalignment issues, traditional orthodontic treatments like braces or Invisalign are a better option.

When is orthodontic treatment a better option?

Some bite and misalignment issues are too extensive to treat with veneers. Orthodontics shift your teeth into the correct alignment over time.

Types of misalignment issues include:

While orthodontic treatment is usually recommended for children, it’s never too late to get the treatment you need to fix your smile and improve your oral health.

Signs you need orthodontic treatment

Some misalignment and bite issues are obvious, like wide gaps between teeth or excessively crooked teeth.

However, some bite and misalignment issues may not be visible. However, you may notice symptoms, including:

After a comprehensive dental exam, our team will recommend the best treatment for your needs.

Misalignment issues can affect your oral health and well-being in many ways, from causing pain and wear and tear on your teeth and jaw, to interfering with your speech and nutrition.
