Invisalign Q&A
How does Invisalign work?
Invisalign is a revolutionary way to straighten teeth, offering an appealing alternative to traditional orthodontic treatments like braces. With Invisalign, you wear plastic aligners that you switch out every one to two weeks with a new set of aligners that are slightly adjusted. With each new set, the aligners gradually turn your teeth into the correct position.
You’ll need to wear them for at least 20 hours a day, but you can remove them easily to clean your teeth and eat.
Is Invisalign better than braces?
Due to its comfort and ease of use, Invisalign is an increasingly popular treatment for misaligned teeth, especially among young adults. The benefits of Invisalign aligners include:
- Invisibility: People see your teeth, not a mouthful of metal
- Comfort: Thanks to the smooth plastic, you won’t get the mouth irritation caused by metal braces
- Convenience: You can remove them whenever you need to eat or clean your teeth
- Timing: Invisalign treatments work up to 50% faster than other orthodontic techniques
Invisalign can treat most orthodontic problems, including overbites, underbites, and crossbites.
Are you a good candidate for Invisalign?
Invisalign can solve mild to moderate dental misalignments, such as:
- Overcrowded teeth
- Spaces between teeth
- Rotated teeth
- Teeth misalignment after braces
The team at 2K Dental may recommend an alternative treatment if you have major orthodontic and alignment issues.
What should I expect from an Invisalign treatment?
Your provider will first examine your teeth to determine whether Invisalign is the best treatment method for you. Then, they will make a physical impression of your teeth or digitally scan them. Then, they will map out a precise treatment plan, show you what your teeth will look like after treatment, and send the plan to the Invisalign lab where your aligners will be made.
Most patients receive 18-30 sets of aligners. Every 1-2 weeks, you will switch to a new set of aligners that are slightly adjusted. Each new set will move your teeth a little more, and by the end of treatment, your teeth will be in the correct position. You’ll need to wear your aligners for at least 20 hours a day. For most patients, treatment takes 9-15 months.
